Shallow Water Dredging can have many effects on coastal waters. Impacts include benthic and shallow water habitat alterations, release of toxins or suspended sediments, and entrapment by dredge equipment. Read about this information, as well as best management practices, in the lastest Rivers & Coast newsletter. In 2008, legislative changes were enacted for coastal primary dunes and beaches in Virginia. Find out how beaches and dunes act as natural buffers and provide ecological services and how detriments to these systems result in economic impact. Read more in Sand Dune and Beaches in Virginia: Science and Management. Coastal Management Decision Tools. The April 22, 2010 Tidal Wetlands Workshop will highlight tools for understanding and making decisions regarding coastal resources. Lecture presentations and a hands-on training for use of decision tools will be provided. See Spring 2010 Virginia Wetlands Report and Website for more info.
