Goal 13. To protect life and property from coastal flooding and storms

STRATEGIC GOAL  A

Reduced number of death and injuries during coastal flooding and storm events

 

INTERMEDIATE GOALS:

1.      Change in public understanding of the risks due to coastal flooding and storms/ change behavior

2.      Regulate construction in coastal at-risk areas (including building codes and zoning)

3.      Implement effective evacuation strategies and routes

4.      Where appropriate, build structures to mitigate intensity of storm/flooding effects, such as flood containment and erosion control

 

STRATEGIC GOAL MEASURES:

  • Decrease in number of deaths and injuries attributed to coastal flooding and storm events

INTERMEDIATE GOAL MEASURES:

  • Increase in percentage of reach showing improved understanding of risks of coastal flooding and storms (via survey)
  • Increase in number of evacuation and/or mitigation projects
  • Increase in funding for evacuation and/or mitigation projects
  • Increase in percentage of at-risk area removed from development zoning
