Goal 9. To reduce the adverse effects of suspended solids and sedimentation on coastal aquatic habitats

STRATEGIC GOAL A

Sediment loads at “safe” (negligible impact) levels

INTERMEDIATE GOALS:

1. Change public understanding of sedimentation in waterways/change behavior

2. Establish regulatory and voluntary controls and “safe levels” for runoff and waterways

3. Conduct appropriate land stewardship for runoff management at “safe” levels

STRATEGIC GOAL MEASURES:

  • Reduction in total suspended solids
  • Decrease in percentage of aquatic habitat impaired by suspended solids

INTERMEDIATE GOAL MEASURES:

  • Increase in percentage of reach showing improved understanding of sedimentation in waterways (via survey)
  • Decrease in number of E & S violations
  • Increase in number of BMPs implemented
  • Increase in number of miles of protected shoreline in natural geomorphic condition
  • Increase in number of miles of restored stream (geomorphic)
  • Compliance of dredging activities to time of year restrictions
  • Miles of riparian buffer restoration
