There are two oil spill models inside SELFE: a simple particle-tracking plus random diffusion model by Dr. Yung Jung, and a more complex model developed by LNEC group that incorporates many more processes. The latter is still under development w.r.t parallelization of the surface slick module.
Dr. Jung's model
Here are some slides from Dr. Jung about his oil spill model. This model has been tested at OHSU-CMOP for forecasting oil spill response in Columbia River.
