We are seeking a Postdoctoral Scientist to conduct original research using state-of-the-art hydrodynamic models to understand fish migrations through rivers. The postdoc will work with an integrative team of researchers under the direction of Dr. Andrew Hein at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and Dr. Vamsi Sridharan (UC Santa Cruz), based in Santa Cruz, California USA. We are currently advertising a CFD modeling Post-doc position to model the fine-scale hydrodynamics of open water processes in the San Francisco Estuary system, and build parameterizations into a more scalable system-scale coupled hydrodynamic-biophysical model of juvenile salmon migration.

This position is part of a new multi-year project to build a data-driven hydrodynamic and biophysical model of salmon migrations. We are seeking a researcher with expertise in modeling 3D hydrodynamics (e.g., using SCHISM and OpenFOAM or another CFD tool of their choice) with an interest in merging the physics of flows and the biology of organisms that move through and interact with those flows. Please direct inquiries to Andrew Hein (andrew.hein@noaa.gov) and Vamsi Sridharan (vamsi.sridharan@noaa.gov).

We have received 3 years of generous funding from the California Department of Fish and Wildlife to continue research on developing this model using data-driven methods (read the proposal document here for a background on the project):

We are also advertising for a software specialist position to aid us with our scientific computing needs:

Both positions are available with immediate effect. Please circulate among your current and former students/colleagues. Applications are open to all nationalities.
