We are looking and resourcing our SCHISM capability in MetOcean/MetService here in New Zealand with probably two hires in the next few months. One of the job adverts has gone out to the Coastal List and is also on our website at [1] and [2], with the role relatively broader than just SCHISM related, but definitely SCHISM or FE modelling would be useful. This role is really situated in the consultancy team here.
The other role we are expecting to begin advertising for soon is more related to the support and development of the operational capacity we have developed and are looking to expand on with respect to SCHISM – including the coupled wave/current capability and tracers for water quality.

The Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht, Institute of Coastal Research invites applications for 3 PhD positions and 2 Postdoc positions (3 and 5 years) in the framework of the DFG Cluster of Excellence ´CliCCS-Climate, Climate Change and Society´. The Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht is partner in CliCCS, an ambitious research program at the University of Hamburg, which is funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) and part of Germany’s Excellence Strategy. CliCCS aims to understand climate changes, taking into account internal variability, extreme events, and unexpected side effects, addressing the natural and social spheres as well as their interactions. CliCCS’ overarching research question is: Which climate futures are possible and which are plausible? The programme will investigate how climate changes and how society changes with it, thereby feeding back on climate. It will identify those climate futures that are consistent with both climate and social dynamics (possible), and those we expect to unfold with appreciable probability (plausible).

The SCHISM developer's team at Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS), led by Dr. Joseph Zhang, is seeking a new post-doctoral level position that can start as soon as possible. The successful candidate will have choice to participate in various funded projects by NOAA (Integrated Water Project), NSF etc.
- Qualification: PhD in a related field (applied mathematics, ocean science, environmental science etc), with strong quantitative and numerical modeling skill.
- Desirable: prior experience in ocean/estuarine models, particularly with unstructured grids.
- Compensation package: commensurate with experience
- Expected performance period: 2 years
